Concluding Remarks

Sage CRM and its hosting delivery from is easy to use and quick to deploy. Small and midsize businesses can get to a fully provisioned environment immediately and be up and running in a matter of days.

Sage CRM integrates out-of-the-box with Sage accounting and ERP software products, supporting end-to-end business process integration. Sage CRM displays data from the back-office to give customer facing staff a 360 degree view of the customer relationship.

Sage continues to advance its CRM software with new releases delivering new features, many of which coming from customer input. For example, the version 7.0 release in June 2010 delivered key capabilities such as enhanced mobile CRM support, a related entities graphical display, an enhanced email editor, quotes and sale order enhancements and improvements to the Solo offline edition, among other things. The company invests in R&D, however, must work to reduce the cycles between upgrades if it is to compete favorably with SaaS CRM software vendors which have moved to seasonal releases.

Sage is not a technology trailblazer and pursues more of a fast follower approach to software innovation concepts such as software as a service and cloud delivery. The company's marketing spend doesn't match its larger competitors such as Oracle, SAP, Microsoft and and the Sage brand is overshadowed by company's many lines of products which customers more readily recognize.

To effectively compete, Sage demonstrates competitive advantages in the areas of M&A (merger and acquisitions), channel distribution and customer longevity. Sage's history in acquiring business software companies and integrating them into the Sage family is without equal in the small and midsize business software market. Similarly, Sage manages several indirect channel and global business partner programs which permit local sales and professional services delivery throughout the world. Sage's business partner channel is mature and the single greatest factor in aiding Sage in achieving its very low customer churn.
