Software-as-a-service (SaaS) is poised to grow seven times faster than on premises application software for the next three years, reports research firm Gartner. By 2011, a quarter of new business software is projected to be SaaS.

India is both a technology leader and early adopter of many new technology offerings. SaaS and cloud computing are being embraced by this technology savvy region and are projected by many to be the future. According to analyst firm Frost and Sullivan, the most common trend that influences the customer relationship management software market in India is the availability of CRM on SaaS or in an on-demand basis. Business software applications that provide vertically focused solutions and business analytics are expected to most influence the current trend. With the acceptance of cloud computing companies like Google, eBay, and, Indian IT buyers and business executives have become comfortable using the web for personal transactions, and are moving to manage their businesses on the web as well.

SaaS penetration in India is somewhat inconsistent in terms of market share however much more constant in terms of growth projections. One research study estimates the India Software as a Service (SaaS) market at USD $65M in 2010 and projected to grow in excess of 20% annually.
